Default How about a rebirth option in character selection?

For some reason right now, it seems like ANet doesn't want to add a stylist NPC for some reason. People have been asked for it since GW came out, but still no NPC. So how about adding an option in the character selection screen. Let's call it rebirth for now.

What it'll do would be to copy all the gold and items your PC has (so if they are customized, they'll stay customized). It'll also copy things like title data, exp, skills, skill points, and what not. Then it brings you to the character creation, but with one chevet, your PC can only have the height and looks altered (but you can mix and match a little if you want to, say a canthan hairstyle with a tyrian face or something like that). If you are happy, you click rebirth, everything from your old PC is copied to the new one and the "old version" is removed.

How does that sound for a way to have us alter our looks since it seems the stylist isn't happening?

I'd say there's a higher chance for them to put a stylist in than for them to implement this suggestion.

That would be extremely more complicated than just a stylist

Well do we really need an ingame stylist? Wouldn't it be easier to do it from the character selection screen and not "in game"?

Well in that sense; they may as well just alter the appearance of the existing character rather than making a new one and copying all the crap from the old one

In game would make it a gold sink (if they design it that way), which would benefit the game as a whole (though there is already a large surplus of gold... how much it could help might be minimal). And wouldn't altering a few bits of information on one character be a lot easier than copying a huge load of information and transferring it to a new character?

Except that Anet has said they can not do an in-game stylist because of the way the programming was done for account security issues. Character appearance seems to have been written into the account code, not the in game options, so if it is to be changed, it would likely have to be done in the account control area, i.e., character selection.

what about wigs? armor head ware that emulates a style... lol ok sounds stupid, & it would be useless in the game. But it would be as practical as Holiday Pumpkin Heads, & Witches caps. Anyone for the poofy rainbow clown afro? anyone?

Can you cite where you heard this?

I'd love to be able to change a few things on my characters, but your suggestion is way too overcomplicated.

It sounds wayyyy too complicated and messy.

It sounds like your creating a whole new account and character and just transfering certain details and equipment accross.

Aside from that probably being a lengthy process in terms of demand on the database, it doesnt sound like it would take into account armor!

Id rather just wait for this hairdresser to be created.

So if what blackbird is true, there can't be a stylist. Anyways, if the character selection screen can be given permissions to change things easier than the game can without the whole delete and copy, I'd be all for that.

Just run a search on the topic of character appearance, this is not a new issue, and Anet has spoken on it before.

Yes, this is a complicated suggestion, and I'm not saying it's a great one, but it's about the only one I've heard so far that gets around Anet's sloppy coding work. I know, they claim it has to do with account security. Frankly I don't see how having your hair locked in one style makes an account any more secure. But the bottom line is, it appears that the code for appearance is fundamentally connected with account characteristics. Now, you can change your account settings, i.e., login name, password, region, etc., so why not this as well?

hmmm almost 20 months of play and im not tired of my first chars I created, but guessing spending about 10 mins looking at a noobish dressed non-playable character helps to imagine a bit if you can stand the look.

If I want a change, I change the armor they are using... I think this rebirth thing would be glitchy, like the maxed weps in pre-searing. I do like the idea, but I'm one of the few that wouldn't want to see her char changed and its way better then a ingame NPC that changes the styles, how would that look if you actualy change the look.... Lag/bugs w/e This option, as I just said, like the idea, but I would be so pissed if my greens and golds(those I've spend about all my money on) to disapear or worse... And NCsofts support would prolly be spammed with: My character is bugged, weapons are gone w/e...

I agree that a stylist is more reasonable, but if players want to totally replace an exsisting character with the same profession this is way better, and that could become a serious interest if we get new races.

I think the best course of action is a stylist npc which can change your hair and complection (hey we have magic right?), and also some sort of cross completion that way it doesn't take so long to develope a new character.

Quite funny, but I suggested the same for a previous game, which needed it a whole lot more.

Wow. Just wow. There have been probably 20 other posts involving the alteration of your characters creation. Read into it on other posts and see that many people think that this would be nice but dont you think that because so many people want it Anet would have already put it in there. I would like to see something like this happen but dont get your hopes up for it.

Though I'd call the feature "Re-imagine" - like Starbuck being a girl, in the new BSG.

Im in no way an expert on designing computer game characters,

But I would suspect they cant change hairstyles easily because the style you choose at creation is actually built into your characters model and frame.

Where as you can change armor and weapons because they sit on the frame, and around it. The hair is built in and not seperate.

In order to use different hair styles, they would need to redesign the way hair is used on the models/frames.

They would have to make it work like armor or helmets. Sitting on the head instead of being part of it.

In a similar way as you see in the design stage. The hair at the design stage obviously isnt part of the frame yet because you can change it.

If they kept it so that it didnt become perminant once you accept the design, then it could be changed easily.

Plus with the introduction of moving mouths, I dont see why the hair section cant be changed to in another huge update.

Mind you, I could be talking rubbish, as like I said, Im no expert.

If this was true, then how do headpieces work? The ones that cover the hair and/or get rid of it? It's more than just adding armor on. Some of it requires the hair to be removed all together, especially female long ones. And ritualist armor reskins a bald head with tatoos (even if the character had hair to begin with). Most headgear seems to be a replacement to hair. Look at the wicked hats you got in Kamadan for Halloween. They turn a character bald underneath the hat. I could be wrong of course, but just an observation.
